jullettek This Droves trilogy is deeply moving to me. The layering of sounds and the haunting undertones embedded with the complexity of conflict and quest in the meaning is mind blowing when immersed in it's entirety.
Creative catharsis. Over and again, I keep coming back.

Bloodline 03:10
You hang your fingers in the lions den I can’t promise that you’ll see them again And you’ll worry Your act of war was re-assured by the ones who loved and lost than never loved at all. My actions were wrong and they were applauded Don’t get me wrong I couldn’t avoid it but the ultimate cost? You paid the ultimate cost of war. Victory Shame History favours the victor It’s rubbish You’ll tell them my alibi was self defense I tell myself It was an act of consequence Hey! The devils in the details, The devils in my DNA You can’t run you can’t run from blood You can’t run, you can’t run from blood You can’t run, you can’t run from blood You can’t run, you can’t run from blood My actions were wrong and they were applauded Don’t get me wrong I couldn’t avoid it but the ultimate cost? You paid the ultimate cost of war. Victory Shame History favours the victor It’s rubbish You’ll tell them my alibi was self defense I tell myself It was an act of consequence You hung your fingers in the lions den, I know now I won't see you again.

Time 03:24
That’s an angry God, is he listening? This is another song about the system Oh yeah, I’m not sorry. A shamed priest, a brand new mall Police don’t really care about the law yeah I’m not sorry. Pay the Bills, pay your rent, pay your auntie who only lives on dividends (How hard are you listening - Taylor) You’re there still It’s well known the worlds wealthy only look out for their own Another day another dollar in my head Another six drinks alone Another day another dollar in my head You’ll be asleep when I get home. (Taylor) I know you drink as self medication It doesn’t mean I’m after that attention Oh yeah you’re still not sorry. Stay silent out of fear it’s half the reason I don’t want to be here Oh yeah you’re not sorry. Pay the Bills, pay your rent, pay your auntie who only lives on dividends (How hard are you listening - Taylor) You’re there still? You’re alone, the worlds wealthy only look out for their own Another day another dollar in my head Another six drinks alone Another day another dollar in my head You’ll be asleep when I get home.

Resentment 03:47
There’s a place that she goes to cry, But it only happens at night And from 9-5 we wait Because God doesn’t care about us anyway There’s a place that my father died In a test tube and a bath full of Ice And from now until 2035 I hope to god that he doesn’t survive You know that papa’s got a temper And a whole lot of resentment And from 9-5 we wait Because god doesn’t care about us anyway And God made us by mistake And he doesn’t have the decency to put us all away So every night and day we die Because God doesn’t care about us anyway And I’ve got to get a message back home And I’ve got to find a way back home

about

“DROVES combine a dystopic sound that feels both old and new at the same time” - Pilerats

“If you shoved Foals through an 80’s new wave shredder and pasted it back together on the streets of Wollongong” - Declan Byrne, Triple J

DROVES are a band from Wollongong NSW composed of Phillip Spiteri, Taylor McAuliffe, Luise Martin, Jonathan McKenzie and Tiernan Browne. DROVES’s futuristic look at New Wave Punk has drawn comparisons to early New Order, The Eurythmics and The Cure.

With their debut EP Bloodline, DROVES peer beyond the veil and into our not-so-distant futures. With grace, ‘Bloodline’ reflects on the effects of modern cryogenics and navigates what it means to mourn a death, which due to modern technology, is not set in stone.

Eight years ago, Phillip Spiteri’s father passed away, but prior to his life’s end, he invested in having his brain cryogenically frozen. “In the last six months of his life he had managed to alienate most of his direct family and his recent ex-wife” explains Phillip. “Eventually he ended up in palliative care with a disdain for God and an eagerness to start over again through the help of a little known start-up company involved in commercialised cryogenics.”

This EP functions as time capsule; it unpacks the anger Phillip held within for first few years after his father’s death and progresses towards forgiveness as self-care. “This [EP] was a way I could communicate, as a sort of time capsule, to my father while telling a story of resentment, time and peace to anyone who may have found themselves holding onto anger,
